campaigns help prepare residents for tsunami
West Padang district, said people fled the city's coastal area soon after the 7.6-magnitude quake hit. He said most of them returned when they learned there was no tsunami preparation. A tsunami usually occurs about 45 minutes after an earthquake hits. According to geologists, Padang, which faces the Indian Ocean, was hit by a tsunami on Feb. 10, 1797, it kills 300 people. Intensive campaigns about how to prepare for tsunamis, however, have helped rest residents' fears. The citizen cannot say definitely, but there is a threat a tsunami may hit Padang. We feared the tsunami, but disasters happen everywhere, any time.
